Lilykit had been yowling and screeching
until her throat was sore. Fishkit had commenced to mewling pathetically
which only seemed to make the giant fur-less monster like her more.
Lilykit finally slumped in the firm grasp of the creature, throat
sore, exhausted and scared. Earlier in the day, she and her sister
had been sneaking out of camp to see the forest. Fishkit had ran off and
had been attacked, or rather cuddled by, a huge pink skinned monster.
Lilykit felt the guilt rise in her chest again. Kits weren't aloud out
of camp and yet Fishkit had convinced her to sneak out anyway. With
the danger they were in now, it seemed that rule had good reason and Lilykit
learned it to late.
The pink
skinned creature began away from the white path it had been walking on and
turned toward the row upon row of huge square dens. They were unlike anything
Lilykit had ever seen and she commenced to yowling again. The
up-walking creature ignored her and just as she began to lose hope of ever
seeing Rainclan again, several yowls erupted behind them. The
upwalker swung its head around and let out a strange screech as claws met the layers fabrics covering its body. Both Lilykit and Fishkit were
dropped, pain shooting through the small calico she-kit when she hit the white
stone path. Fishkit had better luck, landing in a small bush beside the path.
Lilykit's head buzzed from the drop, but
she could recognize Warriors as she looked around. The white and
gray splotched pelt of Whitewater, the brown of her father Reedwhisker, the
pure white of her mother Swanfeather, the light gray of Pebblesplash, and a few
more cats attacked the creature.
As it bellowed in pain and
tried swatting at the cats, Lilykit was grabbed up by the scruff
and immediately rushed into the woods. She didn't see what happened
to the creature as ferns engulfed her, but soon the rest of the patrol
joined them. She realized it was her mother that was carrying her, and
Reedwhisker carried her sister. There was a silence as the cats
traveled back to camp. Everything had happened so fast, Lilykit found it
hard to make sense of anything. Yet as they neared camp, the silence grew
to tension and she realized with a heavy heart that she and her sister were in
deep trouble. Swanfeather jumped down into camp with a mew of pain.
The creature must have hurt her, which only intensified Lilykit's guilt.
She was hopeful they would go to the Nursery, but instead the two kits' parents
took them to the Leaders den. It was cool and quiet inside, and as Lilykit
was set down she was amazed at the patterns of light that reflected from the
waterfall outside. The roar of the water filled the small she-kit's ears, but
Wildstar's voice rang clearly despite it.
"You disobeyed the Warrior code. Put your lives
in danger, and the lives of your clan
mates." His body was outlined against the dim silver light the Waterfall
let through, and now he seemed more fierce than ever. Sitting there so still,
with a voice as deep as thunder. Lilykit had only heard thunder once, one dark
night, and now she wished her mother would be there to comfort her as she
did in the storm.
"It was Lilykit! She
made me go!" Fishkit exclaimed, breaking the eerie silence.
Lilykit swung her head to look at her sister, though it throbbed, but she held
a fierce gaze. Her pelt bristled as she clearly remembered being
pushed behind the Medicine cat den and told by her sister that if she
didn't take her out into the forest, she would tell that Lilykit had already
been out there. Wildstar's gaze narrowed as he wat ched the two kits.
"Is this true Lilykit?" Her leader's voice was cold and disappointed. Lilykit studied the ground for a moment, her stomach fluttering. "Well...In a way yes. I was the first one to go out of camp. Fishkit wanted me to take her out too, so I did...." The small calico she-kit's voice quivered as she told the truth. Now Fishkit has nothing against me.... Wildstar let out a sigh. "That doesn't sound like being forced to go Fishkit." He growled softly as he watched Lilykit's sister.
Fishkit shuffled her paws, her black and white fur fluffing up. "She did force me...I swear." Lilykit rolled her amber eyes. Obviously her sister was set on this lie, and Lilykit was going to get the brunt of the punishment as usual. Wildstar stood stretching his powerful gray limbs. "Fishkit, you will be cleaning the elders of their ticks for the next two moons." Fishkit glared at Lilykit with dark green eyes, waiting to hear her punishment.
"Lilykit..." Wildstar paused, watching the tiny she-kit carefully. "You will help Mintfur with her herbs for the next moon." Lilykit let her muscles relax, she had less punishment than Fishkit! Her sister let out a horrified hiss, jumping to her paws. "What!? She made me go to the forest! Nearly got everyone killed! Why do I get more punishment!"
Wildstar raised his tail for silence, a deep growl rumbling in his chest. "Making a dangerous mistake is one thing. Making a mistake and lying about it is another. You lied Fishkit, Lilykit told the truth and owned up to her wrong doings." Fishkit flattened her self to the ground, shoulders slumping with shame. Lilykit felt bad for her sister, even though she tried to lie.
"Now the both of you are dismissed. Get to work." Wildstar flicked his tail for them to leave, and Lilykit was quite happy to. As she exited the den Starkpaw and Drizzlepaw bound over. "Hey how did it go? Are you two in trouble." Lilykit smiled at the beige and brown siamese tom. "Only a moon of Medicine cat duty."
Fishkit didn't answer, shoving her sister out of the way she headed for the Elders den. Lilykit felt guilt sting her fur. She shouldn't have said that, she should have made everyone think both sisters had the same punishment. Poor Fishkit...I didn't mean for this to happen! I should never have left camp in the first place...
Starkpaw and Drizzlepaw watched Fishkit go, their eyes looking to Lilykit curiously. "Um, I better go..." Lilykit bound away, not wanting to explain. Even though she felt terrible for what happened, one thing was quite clear. She had made an impression on Wildstar and so had Fishkit. Except Fishkit's wasn't a very good one. So the competition heightens....
