Lost, alone, and tired. Lilykit panted hard, partly from exhaustion, partly from fear. She had been in the forest since dawn and now it was past sunhigh. "This was the worst idea ever." She sighed resting her head on her paws, which were still wet from her violent swim. Pink nose twitching, Lilykit raised her head studying the ground carefully. A scent?
Whitewater's scent!! Lilykit got to her paws happily, remembering that Starkpaw, Drizzlepaw and Whitewater had passed by here just earlier. I can follow this scent home! It will lead me to camp for sure! Paws pounding on the mossy ground, she followed the scent without distraction. Despite her tired limbs, the hope of finding her way home gave Lilykit strength. A recognizable fern patch lay ahead, crumpled white feathers laying around it. The feathers! That's where I scared that bird away! Its near the Elder Den path!
Lilykit no longer needed Whitewater's warm scent to lead her. She knew where she was and sped by the fern patch like a startled hare. Scents of her clan filled Lilykit's nostrils and finally the steep cliff path came into clear view. Heart pounding, Lilykit let her hind quarters dangle over the edge first, then carefully got a grip with her front paws. It seemed like forever before she reached the bottom and the last half tail length she fell with a thump.
Now more sore than before, Lilykit peeked out from behind the bushy ferns, searching for anyone who could be watching. Everyone in camp seemed to have hunted for the night, for now they lazily shared tongues. At the far side of the clearing Fishkit was babbling to Swanfeather and Reedwhisker; who listened with lukewarm interest. Whew, no one seems to have noticed me.. She took the opportunity of no one looking to dash out of her hiding spot. Still no one noticed her, all except for Fishkit. The black and white she-kit swung her head around and with a squeak ran across the elders tree trunk to the other side of the river.
"Where have you been all morning!!" Fishkit exclaimed, and her sister lowered her head nervously. "I was hiding from you, but you never found me!" She tried to lie, but by now Fishkit already looked suspicious. "Why are you all wet? And..." Fishkit leaned forward sniffing Lilykit's fur curiously. She jumped back, eyes wide. "You were in the forest!!" Lilykit looked around nervously, "Be quiet!" She hissed shoving Fishkit back behind the nursery. "Yes...I-I was. Don't tell anyone!!" Fishkit growled going into a crouch. "Why shouldn't I!?" Lilykit shuffled her paws nervously. "Because....Your..My sister?"
She said hopefully, but this statement just sent Fishkit into a more angry mood. "No! That's not enough! You got to go to the forest, and I didn't! Its not fair, not fair and I'm going to..." Fishkit trailed off, her eyes studying her sister. Lilykit wasn't sure what was worse, Fishkit in a bad mood or Fishkit in a artifice mood. "I have an idea...You take me to the forest, and I wont tell." Lilykit felt her stomach turn to ice. "I don't want to go out there again! I'm tired." Fishkit hissed in irritation. "Fine then take me tomorrow! I want to go to, its not fair if I don't." Lilykit sighed bowing her head in defeat. There was no convincing Fishkit now, and not only that but she didn't want to get into trouble either. "Alright, tomorrow. But you can't tell!"
Fishkit held out a paw tipping her head up proudly. "Trust me, I wont. I'm the best at keeping secrets." Lilykit pushed past her sister to the pebble shore. She looked toward the Nursery and felt the exhaustion of her adventure hit. Rest now, worry about Fishkit tomorrow. She wont tell, I just have to take her out and it will all be over. No one will know.
