"Rrrrrooow." Lilykit yawned as she stretched, her back going into a low arch. Fishkit was licking her white spotted pelt with brisk licks. Raising a paw to groom her own calico fur, she noticed a ugly green bug hoping across the Nursery floor. Lilykit's eyes narrowed playfully and she glanced up at Fishkit who hadn't noticed it yet. Amber eyes locked on target, she jumped forward swatting the hoping bug at Fishkit. Lilykit's sister let out a squeal as it landed spot on her nose. "Get it off o' me!" Lilykit rolled over laughing hard as her sister flailed around in a tumble of black and white fur.
With a satisfying crunch, Fishkit smashed the small insect. On her paws the instant her sister's green gaze locked on her, Lilykit dashed out of the den in a flash. Fishkit was hard on her paws growling out threats furiously. "It was just a little bug!" She called back, but it didn't seem to calm down her raging attacker. Looking for a place to hide Lilykit dashed over to Starkpaw, who was on his way to the Fresh-kill pile after a morning hunt. "Whoa, what's going on?" He purred as she ducked under him, which was a tight squeeze since he wasn't much older than her. "Fishkit's gonna kill me!"
"Why?" The beige and brown tom questioned his head cocked curiously. "I put a bug in her fur." Starkpaw laughed, his blue eyes bright. "Okay, you run I'll cover for you." Lilykit blinked at him gratefully, giggling as she turned and ran away. Glancing over her shoulder, the young she-kit saw her sister talking in irritation with Starkpaw. Good he's distracting her. The black and white kit seemed desperate to get away from him, but he kept up conversation. Lilykit's gaze scanned the camp, searching for a place to hide. On the other side of the swift river, there was a semi steep slope. Sticking out of its dry dirt sides was gnarled roots, making for easy paw holds. Not quite sure where the path lead, but desperate to get away from Fishkit, she took off toward it. Having to cross the river she headed toward the Elders den, which was a large log across the river that served as a bridge for everyone. This was the first time Lilykit had to cross the rough fallen tree, but she bit back her fear. White paws extended she gave a mighty jump at the log.
Lilykit gritted her teeth when her hind quarters didn't make it up. Hind legs dangling over the pebbly shore, she clawed trying to pull herself up. Fishkit will be here any second! Finally all four paws met rugged bark as she made it to the top of the log. It rose high above the water, but still was sleek with the spray of the black river. Lilykit glanced over her shoulder to see Starkpaw give her a warning look, Fishkit was coming. In a few bounds Lilykit was across the bridge and landing on the other side. The sharp pebble's pierced her paws, but she was used to it. Racing forward she made it to the ravine wall. Raising onto her hind paws, Lilykit's forepaws felt around for a sturdy paw hold. Finding one that seemed to be strong enough, she jumped up scrabbling to get a grip with all fours. When she had found her balance, slowly each paw found a new root to hold onto, and she moved up the slope. Panting with the effort, Lilykit glanced over her shoulder to see Fishkit stomping around camp her green eyes ablaze.
Thankful for the cover of the over hanging reeds, Lilykit clambered her way upwards. Slipping a few times, she finally reached the top. Soft grass and moss met her white paws as she pulled herself over the edge onto solid ground. She scented the air curiously, many different smells making her nostrils flare. Where am I? I don't remember a place like this in camp... Filled with wonder, she carried on, her paws leading her through the twisting paths of tall reed stalks. Lilykit's paws slipped into the paw steps of other cats, and she realized these paths must be used often. The flattened grass smelt strongly of Rainclan and Lilykit could pick out individual scents. Dewdrop...Thunderpelt...Cloudeyes.. Nose twitching, she padded forward tail held high. Lilykit's ears swiveled to the side as there was a shuffling sound. Her stomach turning to butterfly's, she crouched low. "What was that?" Muttering to herself, she glided across the soft moss and grass, her eyes wide as moons.
The shuffling grew louder as Lilykit approached a fern thicket. Is it another cat? Doesn't smell like one...Sounds funny too. Like its got only two legs. With the image of a strange two-legged furry monster in her head, Lilykit peered around the ferns. "Squawk!!! Squawk!!" A white feathered bird burst out of the ferns in a flurry of feathers. "Mrrrow!!" Lilykit closed her eyes tight, ears flattened. When the steady croak of frogs and the buzz of bugs filled the she-kits ears, she dared to peep one eye open. "I'm okay?" Looking over her calico pelt for any injuries, she felt her body tingling with exihleration. There are no birds in camp..Which means... "I'm in the forest!"
I like the story so far!! ^-^
